Pricing

  • Why does the price seem higher than what I’ve heard from neighbors who recently resurfaced their pools?

First, most pools in Florida are plaster based so the material used on those types of pools are radically lower, often times resulting in resurfaces that are 50% less than a fiberglass resurface which uses a high-tech specialized inert material. As to lower price fiberglass quotes, you can find someone to do a resurface for cheaper but in this industry its true that you get what you pay for. Using an inferior product will result in a short term surface and actually cost you a lot more when you do eventually higher Green Turtle because we will have to charge you to remove their obsolete product before we can even begin our process.

  • The cost of a resurface covers all the aspects of the resurface but often these pools have issues beyond the resurface such as weeping blisters, raised blisters, faulty drain sumps, outdated lights, or basic repairs. Each of these items would not be covered and would be an additional cost.

  • In order to get our on schedule, we ask for 2 things:

    • A reviewed and signed contract

    • 10% refundable deposit.

Once you’re on the schedule, we do not ask for any more money until we START the pool. There is then a draw schedule based on you making the next draw when we hit certain points on the project timeline.

Process

  • The process starts with us verifying your water table. Before we take any water out of you pool, we want to make sure it is safe to do so. We then safely drain your pool using all of our own equipment. The next step is a hydroblast which is like a sand blast but not as aggressive. This is done to remove the decaying material. At this point we will do any of the repairs your request or deal with the blistering issues. Once that is done, we wipe the entire thing down with denatured alcohol to remove any residue or gummy build-up. We then apply your surface and within 24 hours you are filling it up and swimming the very same day.

  • We do 4-6 pools per week and the crews always make the water go away without upsetting neighbors, animals, the city or the EPA. They will identify the best method of disposing of your water once they evaluate your property.

  • It obviously depends on the SCOPE OF WORK but a straight forward resurface project is usually 3 days but if there are repairs to be made or tiles and coping added then the project can increase to 5 or 6 days.

About Us

  • We are a stated certified pool contractor. We’re fully licensed, insured and bonded (General liability, workers comp and also carry a special rider against pool popping)

  • We do several million dollars worth of projects a year. We are currently operating with 3 crews.

  • Green Turtle was started and is still ran by the two founding families: The Marinos and the Hamers.

  • All repairs and resurfacing activities are carried out by our own employees.

All of our employees are covered by workmans comp and have provided proper hiring paperwork.

Pool Specifics

  • We feature a full line of Jandy brand equipment. This is top of the line equipment. We sell and install these items as a courtesy to our resurfacing customers. If you are wanting something other than the Jandy line, we highly recommend you contact your pool technician or local pool store.

  • These pools were manufactured using PolyEster Resin. As a result they were very susceptible to blistering. It came in two main forms:

Raised blisters which look like bubbles or Black Dots which we call a cobalt or a weeping blister.

Your sales tech will be able to show you the difference between the 2 and explain what caused them and how we deal with each type or view our youtube page for a video that discusses blisters.

  • After many years the gel coat on these fiberglass pools breaks down. That is actually what you are seeing… it is literally the gel coat deteriorating. It will only get exponentially worse moving forward and there really isn’t anything you can do to slow it down except for a resurface.

Misc.

  • Our backlog almost always stays around 10-12 weeks but at times can get as far out as 14-16 weeks. It is rare our backlog gets below 8 weeks.

There’s a reason we carry a backlog and there is a reason our competitors do not. We would say that you should be suspicious of any company that can start your pool within the next week.

  • We want to be fair to ALL our customers so we try to stick to the FIRST in FIRST out principals. However, for out of town pools, we schedule multiple pools together so if you’re out of town then there is a chance you may be pulled in.

  • Standard surface is a resin based product, it is a matte type of a finish, available in white and includes a five year limited warranty. Premium surface is a multi-part epoxy, it is a gloss finish available in several colors and includes a ten year manufacturers warranty.

  • We leave the issue of pulling or not pulling a permit at the discretion of the customer. We recommend if your are concerned that you contact your local building department. In our understanding, technically you do not need a permit but some municipalities are unique in their wording or approach. We do 3-5 projects a week and we pull maybe 5 or 6 permits a year at customers directive.
